Understanding Trauma
Trauma is a response to an overwhelming event or series of events that surpasses your ability to cope. It can result from various experiences, such as accidents, abuse, natural disasters, or witnessing violence. Trauma can have long-lasting effects on your mental and physical health.
Signs of Trauma
- Flashbacks and intrusive memories
- Nightmares and sleep disturbances
- Hypervigilance and anxiety
- Emotional numbness and detachment
- Avoidance of reminders of the trauma
Psycho-Education on Trauma
Trauma affects the brain and body, often leading to post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). It’s important to understand that trauma responses are normal reactions to abnormal events. Healing involves processing these experiences and learning to feel safe again.
Our trauma recovery program at Sawubona Therapy is designed to provide compassionate support and effective treatment. We use evidence-based practices, including:
- **Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT)**: To help you process traumatic memories and develop healthier coping mechanisms.
- **Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR)**: To reduce the impact of trauma by processing and integrating distressing memories.
- **Somatic Experiencing**: To release trauma stored in the body and restore your sense of safety and resilience.
